The Gadfly: Emolga seems willing to do whatever it takes to garner a reaction from the other characters. Raynbow is a more extreme example, taking life threatening and catastrophic measures to stir up conflict whenever she is bored.
Evil for the Lulz: Once again Raynbow. She'll destroy a few universes simply because she can.
Why'd It Have to Be Snakes: Or in Teddy's case Sylveons, whom he is terrified of because of a traumatic childhood experience. Flamber has a bizarre and unexplained phobia of Spheals and Paige is mentioned to be fearful of Oddish.
Idiot Hair: Shiruru sports one, though she's not necessarily an idiot. Eli also bears a prominent cowlick.
White Mage: Tifani, of the main branch, being that she is primarily based around support and healing as opposed to damaging enemies. Dodeca exhibits white mage traits as well, though her abilities are far more on the offensive side.
Black Mage: Loren, in comparison to Tifani, boasts very powerful offensive magic, having some of the most destructive magic of the Apprentices.
Shrinking Violet: The shy Loren falls into this, at one point wearing her hair over her eyes. Jensei is also quite bashful.
Edible Theme Naming: Quite a few Shirans are named after spices. Rhodium was known to nickname his Pokemon after food.
Cute Little Fangs: Flamber, Elizabeth and Atlas are shown with a small potruding fang, though Atlas prefers not to be seen as cute. Blood sports a maw of razor sharp teeth though these are anything but cute.
Cute Bruiser: Sheebop's small and sheepish demeanor directly contrasts with her fighting style. She's trained in CQC and has put up quite a fight in numerous RPs.
Brainwashed and Crazy: Any plot involving the LEs tends to feature one of the characters brainwashed and manipulated into the side of evil.
Puni Plush: Laki's natural art style and character designs favor a rounded edge. Occassionally juxtaposed with dark, surreal or whacky plots.
Funny Background Event: Pikachu and a few others engage in a pleasant conversation as a statue of a urinating angel sits behind them in KaPRPT. No one pays the statue any mind.
Lighter and Softer: Inverted with "The School of Hard Knocks". It appears to be a lighthearted reimaging of the Order of Light as high school students and staff until the story grows increasingly dark. More classic examples include "A Peach Blossom in a Field of Apple Trees" in comparison to the dark "Broken Swords" and the upcoming Team Missy Pop, a more campy followup to the tense BDBM saga.
Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: The case of the Dark Duplicates somewhat in Broken Swords, who finally receive development and closure. Teddy's character has also grown increasingly respected following his character growth beyond the Darkella Saga.
Broken Bird: Quite a few individuals in the timeline fall into this.
-Beneath her composed exterior Dodeca has experienced quite a bit of trauma and is revealed to be quite broken down inside due to her centuries of stress.
-Most of the Outcasts come from troubled pasts comprised of mistreatment, destruction and corruption.
Ensemble Darkhorse: Lunatyr began as just one member of the early PokeOC funny band who didn't have much going on aside from his occasional deadpan quips and sugar addiction. However he'd eventually gain importance and development to the point of gaining an arc and becoming one of the few longstanding original timeline characters. He nearly rivals Pikachu in his level of importance in KaPRPT.
Breakout Character: Shiruru, who even spurred the creation of the term The Shiru Effect, in which a once minor or temporary character gains enough backing and popularity to reappear. Other examples include Sesu and Doctor Hine.
One Scene Wonder:
-Cornrows Girl who makes out with Angelo in Mended Fragments.
-The strange Russian woman who appeared on the plane Averey and Darren boarded in Master Trainer Dawn.
Early Installment Weirdness: A few pre-Lives of Light era RPs were plagued with odd characterization and conventions that would soon fade from the timeline.
Characterization Marches On: Angelo's obsessive love for Dodeca in his old characterization can hardly even be visioned nowadays. Lunatyr evolves from an unironically edgy character to The Not So Stoic ironically edgy character.
The Scrappy: The Dark Duplicates in general proved to be one of the most controversial characters in the timeline, with their reception in general being negative. Most complaints stemmed from their imitation of the popular Vanessa as well as the fact that they served as flat, over-sexed copies of their notably more developed counterparts. In response to this they appear to have been hand waved from canon, not even being mentioned any more.
However, it's worth noting that Dark Tifani, Dark Loren and Dark Zula have received more development in Broken swords, nearly being Saved from the Scrappy Pile. But this doesn't apply to Dark Dodeca, who is never seen nor acknowledged again.
Canon Discontinuity: A few elements from the Dork Age of the timeline have been retconned or written out entirely.
Chuck Cunnigham Syndrome: RPCRP was the most serious offender of this trope, though it's justified in the sense that it was a group RP and at certain instances couldn't be helped. Numerous characters would drop out of existence during the story, though on occassion a few lucky ones would return.
Poor Wave is the most notable example of this, at one point her dissappearance being lampshaded.
On a greater scale a few characters appear in one particular story before never being seen or mentioned again in the timeline. Cindy, a prospective trainee of Vanessa, has never been seen again though in a later RP she was shown to be killed by Mikayla.
Out of Focus: Despite the timeline's large scope of action in various places, a few characters eventually fade to the background in different branches. Aqua and Chiko have taken a bit of a backseat in recent timeline developments, appearing much less than the other characters. Flamber and Sheebop are demoted to extras in the World at Crisis branch.
The creation of the dark duplicates was definitely a part of the Dork Age. But I'd say the RPCRP span was my worst.
- Half of the characters I played in RPCRP were complete useless cast filler and really only Shiruru, Lunatyr, Merlee and Usagi did anything of note or importance.
- My dialogue was CRINGEWORTHY.
- At one point I was gonna kill off Zula, and that would not have flown at all today.
Development Hell: PMDRP rivals RPCRP2 in its issues while running, spanning across three different interfaces entirely due to various reasons. Though unlike the latter it hasn't been cancelled, simply on hiatus.
A Day in the Limelight: Stryfe, the residential owner of Light City's magic store, gets a story in Army of Dark Souls. Several side characters are also given screentime in KaPRPT.
Cheated Angle: Prior to her slight redesign, Shiruru's hair curl was always visible no matter what angle she appeared in, even if it logically made no sense.
Achievements in Ignorance: All over the place throughout the timeline.
Intoxication Ensues: The characters get drunk in PTRPCRP2 when Sanic switches their waters with liquor.
Slice of Life: A majority of the Crossover RPs tend to fall under this category, in comparison to the more action based branches.
Crapsacchirine World: The world of the timeline is amok with enchantresses, demonic entities and other threats beneath its noble and harmless exterior. This also applies to the non-Order stories, in which Crossover City is frequently shown as a disfunctional place overrun by idiots, jerk asses and comedic sociopaths.
Expy: Piper serves as an expy to Aqua, being a hotheaded and brash character. This is rather fitting, considering her RP is a spiritual sequel to PokeRP Saga.
Paper Fan of Doom: Aqua is occasionally shown with one, using it to whack people upside the head.
Color Coded Characters: A few groups of characters are often associated with a particular color. For instance, most of the apprentices tend to have a signature color (Strawbella - Yellow, Loren - Blue, Tifani - Pink)
(Hello!)
The Squirtle, Aqua, continued walking, rather bored. He had decided to embark on a tour to the city but he was currently feeling restless.
(Oh my gosh I'm slow tonight! Anyway, sure)
It was a calm, quiet night in the city. It seems that most of the citizens had been in their homes, with the exception of a capped Squirtle walking the streets.
Yup! So this is the meeting story of Aqua and Rick, right?
Yay!
Yoo
Sorry about that delay. Crazy day ^^"
Modesty Shorts: Loren wears them, considering her wind powers.
No Indoor Voice: In AoDS, Lily and Tifani spend an entire conversation screaming at each other across rooms. Angelo eventually gets in on this.
Rose-Haired Sweetie: Merlee. Inca is shown with pale pink hair as well.
Ensemble Cast: KaPRPT takes this approach, with the secondary cast rotating appearances. Most likely due to the Loads and Loads of Characters.
It is possible, as it's not excusive to females.
Mythological Gag: Actually happens frequently. One notable example is in PTRPCRP2 when Kel-Kel explains how the world had multiple springs full of healing water, but one near the Sinnoh region was used up by a group of idiots to defeat a monster. Humorously Aqua and Chiko awkwardly laugh this off, knowing that they were the ones who took part in this during the PokeRP Saga.
Stepford Smiler: Strawbella does her hardest to stay optimistic in the rising turmoil during LoL, but eventually breaks down. Dodeca also may qualify, as beneath her composed demeanor is a woman who has seen much chaos and death throughout her long life. Flamber is at one point like this during The Search for K, Xander noting how dead on the inside he seemed, despite still acting outwardly happy.
Gratuitous Spanish: Chiko. "Si si"
Gratuitous French: Teddy breaks into French when incredibly heartbroken apparently.
Everything's Nuttier with Squirrels: Emolga, who happens to be a nutcase.
Yaoi Fangirl: Chiko has quite a penchant for this, especially in her shippings.
Sugar and Ice Personality: Zula usually has a no-nonsense and serious personality, but can be markedly caring and nurturing if the time calls for it.
Tomboy and Girl Girl: Strawbella and Zula are the tomboys to Tifani's girly-girl. Loren stands somewhere in the middle.
Pink is a Manly Color: Some of the guys perform in pink luchador attire. PINK MANLY LUCHADOR ATTIRE. It mostly turned pink due to Flamber's Achievement in Ignorance-style flop when operating Kleat's sewing machine.
Dangerously Genre Savvy: Teddy knows the exact ins and outs of his kidnappings so well he can narrate them. It's almost like he's guiding them through it at times!
The Ditz: Usagi's ditzyness is occasionally ramped up during her appearances. She somehow is fooled by one of Kel-Kel's pranks twice, though one was non canon.
Tsundere: Can be split into two types.
Type A (Harsh as their default personality but softer if trust is gained): Aqua, Sheebop (though she switches between the two frequently), Piper
Type B (Their sweeter side is default, but their harsh side is usually triggered by a love interest) Merlee, Tifani (though leaning a little towards Type A)
Demoted to an Extra: Sheebop blatantly lampshades this when she gets abducted towards the last arc of PokeAdventures. "I've been reduced to a plot device for Arceus's sake!"
Seinfeldian Conversation: Happens quite frequently, considering most of the conversations between the characters are improvised, though it's less frequent in Neo and Paigele's plots. RPs with fewer timeskips feature the characters chatting about very random things, including a conversation that FAMOUSLY leads to the discovery of Kleat's love of Magikarp Soap Operas. Lucas at one point engrosses Strawbella in a discussion of how fabulous Papyrus is, to which she starts spacing out. Emolga engaged in a conversation about how one could scale a wall with toilet plungers.
Sweet Tooth: Lunatyr, who seems to need sweets to live.
Puni Plush: Good Luck Shiru-chan's art style is much rounder and cuter than Laki's typical style, though it's prone to jarring art shifts for comedic effect.
Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: There's quite a mix in the Destinies Intertwined RPs, with some stories featuring the heroes overcoming adversity through the Power of Friendship or love, whereas others may take a more cynical turn. The RPCRP branch is overall on the idealistic side, with themes like love and friendship being strongly valued. The Order of Light branch is a bit more varied, with a few RPs tackling the true meaning of being a hero and the value of sacrifice in crisis. However, the heroes do tend to prevail in the end. Paigele's RPs tend to be rather cynical, with very dark topics explored as well as issues that love and kindness can't always easily fix.
Downer Ending: The School of Hard Knocks has an INCREDIBLY dark ending despite presenting itself as a lighthearted what-if story about the Order of Light as high school students and staff.
Crapsaccharine World: The main setting of PMDRP seems like a cheery and innocent place where Pokemon join Rescue Teams and help out their fellow citizens. However, it soon becomes apparent that something is going terribly wrong beneath the surface.
Evil Is Sexy: A majority of the villains encountered are surprisingly attractive, the Lust Enchantresses are shining examples. The Master of PTRPCRP2 also appeared in a unnaturally handsome male humanoid form, Shiruru at one point commenting on how "he's hot". The Dark Duplicates tend to dress a lot less conservatively than their good counterparts.
Chekhov's Gunman: Inca, in a plot where Paige is shrunken and must be watched by the apprentices. She appears briefly in a library before becoming important when the gang is attacked by Eviscera Knights.
Chekhov's Gift: Played entirely straight in Darius League Quest. Merlee forgot her and Rhodium's 2 month anniversary and thus, in an attempt to reciprocate his gift, grabs a glowing stone that she finds near a tree. This turns out to be vitally important later on.
